India Betting – is it Legal?

The history of gambling in India is one that is full of heavy restrictions and laws that prohibit the industry from growing. Since all the way back in the 1800s, the Indian government has been stopping the public from betting in any what that it can.

However, in the 21st century, there is now a way for the people of India to bet carefree and without governmental restrictions. Physical gambling remains an illegal activity in most of India, with only three states allowing casinos, those being Daman, Sikkim, and Dao. As a result, most Indian punters don’t have the ability to go and place their bets, either in a casino or a bookmaker.

However, online betting is not illegal, and even in the areas that are governed and regulated, the language used is very much open to interpretation.

As a result of this, many of the mainstream india betting websites and companies are offering online betting experiences to the people of India in an off-shore manner, keeping it legal for those players. The same can be said for India specific betting sites that have popped up in recent years that do the same thing.

India is an incredibly lucrative market, especially for the gambling industry, so as a result, many gambling sites cater to that demographic, including India region exclusive deals and promotions to try and get people to sign up.

Indian betters don’t have any physical options for gambling, which means that online betting sites have less competition than usual, allowing them to push harder into the market.

So if you’re in India, and you’re not in one of the three states that we mentioned, you’re only option for a bit of gambling may be online betting. So if that’s an experience you’re looking for, don’t worry about breaking any laws, it’s all completely legal.
